We’re delighted to share that the National Highways LED Retrofit Programme has been shortlisted for not one, but two major industry awards, recognising the strength of collaboration behind one of the UK’s most ambitious lighting upgrade programmes.
The programme has been shortlisted for the Collaboration Award at the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) West Midlands Awards 2026, as well as the Supply Chain Collaboration Excellence category at the Construction News Awards 2026.
Both shortlists highlight the same core achievement. A fully integrated supply chain, working as one team to deliver measurable results at scale.
Delivered in partnership with National Highways and a committed network of delivery partners, the programme brings together client, contractors and specialist suppliers into a single, aligned team.
This collaborative approach has enabled a step change in performance. In 2025 alone, the team more than doubled output compared to the previous year, installing over 6,300 LED lanterns in just nine months while maintaining zero safety incidents. This is a proud achievement and a testament to the CU Phosco production and project team.
Performance improvements have been seen across every area of delivery, including 92% on-time completion, over 40% productivity gains and a significant reduction in rework.
Beyond operational metrics, the programme is also delivering long term value. It is projected to generate more than £1.2 million in annual energy savings and reduce CO₂ emissions by over 50%, supporting a safer and more sustainable strategic road network.
At the heart of this success is a genuine collective. One where shared goals, open communication and data led decision making have replaced traditional, fragmented delivery models.
Rather than operating in silos, partners across the programme have aligned around a common objective. Delivering better outcomes faster, safer and more efficiently.
Matt Murray, Sales & Marketing Director, said: “This recognition reflects the strength of the partnership behind the programme. By working as a fully integrated team, we’ve been able to deliver over 6,000 P86 range luminaires consistently to high standards across safety, performance and sustainability, while maintaining the pace required for a project of this scale.”
This recognition from both CIHT and Construction News reflects not just what has been achieved, but how it has been achieved.
LOOKING AHEAD
Winners of the CIHT West Midlands Awards will be announced on 7 May 2026, with the Construction News Awards taking place later this year.
Being recognised across both awards is a strong endorsement of what can be achieved when the industry works together as a true partnership.
