LEGOLAND® WINDSOR RESORT

MEETING GROWING MOBILE DATA DEMAND AT LEGOLAND® WINDSOR RESORT SUMMARY

LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort is one of the UK’s most visited family attractions, welcoming more than two million visitors annually. Since opening in the late 1990s, the park has seen sustained growth under Merlin Entertainments, driven by continued investment in rides, attractions and guest experience.

As visitor numbers have increased, so too has demand for reliable mobile connectivity. From digital ticketing and cashless payments to social sharing, operational communications and emergency access, mobile networks now play a critical role in the smooth running of large-scale leisure destinations.

To address growing capacity requirements across the park and beyond, a programme was developed to enhance on-site telecommunications infrastructure while allowing flexibility for future network expansion.

CU Phosco became involved in the project to support the delivery of a monopole solution capable of accommodating increasing antenna loads as network requirements evolved.

SOLUTION

The project began with an initial design and quotation for a 15-metre Phase 4.5 monopole with a planner-friendly headload, providing a robust foundation for improved coverage. As mobile data demand continued to grow and 5G deployment plans progressed, the specification was later upgraded to a Phase 4.9 headload, enabling additional antennas to be installed without the need for structural replacement.

CU Phosco supplied a complete monopole and foundation kit, supported by detailed structural design calculations to ensure the structure could safely accommodate the increased loading associated with modern telecommunications equipment.

By engineering the monopole with future upgrades in mind, the solution allows the site to respond to changing network requirements efficiently, avoiding unnecessary disruption and reducing long-term infrastructure costs.

CU Phosco’s long-standing experience in telecommunications infrastructure, dating back to the early days of mobile networks, ensured the design met both current operational needs and future-proofing expectations. The company’s monopoles are manufactured from hot-dip galvanised steel and engineered to precise tolerances, with every structure subject to rigorous integrity checks to ensure antennas operate within manufacturer and operator limits.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS

The installation has delivered enhanced mobile connectivity across LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort, supporting both day-to-day operations and the evolving digital expectations of visitors.

The upgraded headload capacity ensures the monopole is ready to accommodate future network expansion, including additional 5G equipment, without further structural intervention.

This forward-thinking approach provides long-term resilience for the site, helping to future-proof connectivity as visitor numbers and data usage continue to grow.

The project demonstrates how carefully engineered telecommunications infrastructure can support high-footfall destinations, balancing performance, flexibility and operational continuity in complex live environments.
