In consultation with Crown Highways in partnership with Carnell and National Highways this HID replacement scheme covers a major stretch of road across the Staffordshire on the Area 9 network,

The clients, National Highways' key focus of the project was to replace the HID lanterns with LED, providing a warm white solution, improving the quality of light and uniformity whilst meeting all required lighting designs provided by Kier.

The program forecast was structured for 3 x phased deliveries in late 2021 and with the LED component supply chain starting to get fragmented on deliveries plus other key National Highways schemes running along a similar timescale it was an excellent achievement to deliver the installation program in an acceptable timescale with all partners working successfully together.

In answer to the key requirements outlined above 302 no. LUX Award-Winning P862 Phosco LED lanterns in Warm White 3000K were provided with a number of different lens types to cover the various lighting design parameters.

As well as providing the warm white light required and improving the quality of light on the network the upgrade to the latest P series lanterns with 256 LED technology Crown Highways have managed to provide excellent energy savings to National Highways whilst improving the network asset and reducing ongoing maintenance.

The estimated energy reduction by swapping to LED is 66%

For the installation stage of the project, Crown Highways worked closely in conjunction with Kier Services (Highways) and CU Phosco to manage the arterial road with a phased traffic management program to minimize daily disruption.

The P862 luminaires were prewired plus also had the unique National Highways integral spirit level this helped ensure lanterns were level and became second nature to install from their Electrically qualified operatives that have many valuable years of experience in specialist highway works.
