Determination, Intellect and Quiet Inspiration
It is with great sadness that CU Phosco announces the death of Jason Marques, son of David Marques, who died peacefully on 28 November 2025, surrounded by his family.
Jason was born in 1970 into the Marques family, founders of CU Phosco, and represented the third generation of the family’s involvement in the business. Jason joined CU Phosco in August 1990 following the completion of his MBA at the University of Hatfield and worked here alongside his brothers Philip Marques, Managing Director, Matthew Marques, Technical Director, and cousin, Nicholas Marques, Chairman. He remained an active and valued part of the business for more than 35 years, continuing his work right up until his death.
From birth, Jason lived with cerebral palsy and deafness. With the unwavering support of his parents, he was encouraged to pursue his ambitions without limits. He attended highly regarded specialist, state-run, preparatory and boarding schools, benefiting from adapted education that enabled him to thrive academically. Jason went on to achieve a degree in Business Studies at the University of the West of England, followed by an MBA, achievements that reflected both his intellect and determination.
At CU Phosco, Jason started work in the Lighting Design Office before building his career within the accounts function, an area he continued to develop throughout his time with the company. He worked across multiple financial disciplines and served as a director of the business, bringing a sharp analytical mind and a deep understanding of the company’s operations. Jason was known for his attention to detail, his thoughtful scrutiny of reports and performance, always with the best interests of the business at heart.
Outside of work, Jason lived life with the same commitment and enthusiasm he brought to his work. He was a passionate skier, travelling annually to pursue the sport. He was also an accomplished horse rider who competed in para-equestrian dressage, winning competitions at a National Level. Although his deteriorating health prevented him from progressing further, he continued to compete locally and remained deeply engaged with the sport and with the Chigwell Riding Trust.
Jason also had a love of travel, visiting many parts of the world during his lifetime, including China on business with his father, David Marques. Closer to home, he found great happiness in spending time at the family house and garden and was an active supporter of his local parish and community in Braughing, Hertfordshire, regularly contributing to local life.
In the latter years of his life, Jason’s health deteriorated, limiting his mobility and ability to attend the office. True to his character, however, he continued to work with determination and sense of humour, using specially adapted technology, including eye-controlled systems, to remain fully engaged with the business. His speed, clarity, and commitment never diminished, and his ability to overcome these challenges was an inspiration to colleagues across the company.
Reflecting on Jason’s legacy, Matt Murray commented on behalf of colleagues at CU Phosco:
“Jason was an inspiration to us all in the way he carried on regardless of his condition, especially in the latter years. His determination, resilience, and commitment to the business were remarkable, and he will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of working with him.”
Jason will be remembered not only for his sharp intellect and thoughtful contribution to CU Phosco, but also for his dry wit, warmth, and quiet strength. He approached every challenge with determination and his characteristic good humour, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues, friends, and family.
Jason was cremated in a quiet service attended by close family on Family 19th December 2025. A service of remembrance to celebrate Jason’s life was held at St Mary’s Church in Braughing on 22rd January 2026.
CU Phosco mourns the loss of a valued colleague, a respected Director, and a much-loved member of the Marques family. Our deepest condolences go to Jason’s family and all who knew him. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
