At CU Phosco, we believe the future of our industry depends on the people we develop today. That’s why we’re proud to invest in our apprentices - equipping them with not just technical knowledge, but the real-world experience, insights, and confidence they need to grow.
This June, we ran a week-long roadshow for our five Contract Service Division apprentices - a hands-on, cross-site learning experience designed to provide a 360-degree introduction to CU Phosco and what we stand for.
The roadshow took our apprentices across our key sites: in Ware, Coleford, and Westgate, with each location offering a different perspective on our 100-year journey, and where we’re headed next.
Highlights included:
- A deep dive into our heritage, with a talk on the history of CU Phosco by Managing Director Philip Marques - helping our apprentices understand not only what we do, but why we do it.
- Guided factory tours and hands-on experience, hosted by local teams including Grant Keech, Mark Wildman, Eric Grieve, Marshall Grieve and Tom Broadhead. Apprentices were given the chance to see, and participate in, the full manufacturing process that underpins our products.
- Technical and safety presentations from Ben Hiscott, Paul Carter and Philip Heslop, covering product performance, health and safety best practices, and essential field knowledge.
- Life skills beyond the workplace, thanks to a session from Bob Gaskell, who shared practical financial guidance on everything from pensions to mortgages - empowering apprentices to make informed decisions outside of work too.
MORE THAN JUST SKILLS
Led by Andy Kay, the roadshow was designed to ensure our apprentices feel part of something bigger from day one. Andy commented:
“It isn’t just about training; it’s really important to us that employees feel they belong. We want each apprentice to leave with a clear understanding of our mission and values, strong connections with colleagues across the business, and a solid foundation in both technical and personal development”.
SUPPORTING THE NEXT GENERATION
We’re proud of the initiative, and of the apprentices who embraced every moment. At CU Phosco, we believe our people are our greatest asset, and by investing in the next generation, it’s our hope to build a brighter, more sustainable future for everyone.
