In November 2025, Bob Gaskell, Contract Services Director and passionate advocate for apprenticeships, visited Richmond School and Sixth Form to participate in a special mock interview session designed to prepare students for their future careers. The event gave students a unique opportunity to gain real-world insights, practice key professional skills, and receive constructive feedback from an industry expert.
Bob has a long-standing commitment to nurturing young talent. Within the Contract Services Division, he directly supports five apprentices, while also mentoring apprentices across other areas of the business, including marketing and manufacturing. His dedication to guiding the next generation is evident in every interaction he has with students and colleagues alike.
During the session, students participated in mock interviews, receiving advice and guidance to enhance their communication, confidence, and career readiness. The feedback from students highlights the success of the event:
- Speaking: 98.65% of students reported improvement
- Listening: 95.89% of students felt more confident
- Aiming high: 81.69% of students felt motivated to set ambitious goals
- Staying positive: 95.77% of students reported a more optimistic outlook
Most impressively, 100% of students said they now feel more prepared for the world of work as a result of participating in the mock interviews.
Students shared how the session had a real impact on their confidence and self-belief:
- “I will be more confident applying for volunteering/job roles that require interviews or presentations, as before I have put them off due to being nervous.”
- “I will be more confident talking to a singular person and more confident in my own abilities.”
- “I definitely feel much more confident in myself and carrying out an interview. Something I have never done before, so I was allowed to be put at ease and massively increase my confidence in conducting an interview.”
- “Not panic when talking about myself.”
Bob commented, “It’s incredibly rewarding to support young people as they take their first steps into the professional world. Helping them build confidence and develop their skills is something I’m truly passionate about.”
The school echoed this sentiment, praising Bob’s dedication and noting the positive impact on students’ readiness and enthusiasm for future career opportunities.
This initiative reflects the broader commitment of the business to apprenticeships and skills development, ensuring that young people receive the support, guidance, and opportunities they need to succeed.
Thank you, Bob, for your dedication to inspiring and empowering the next generation of professionals.
