LEARNING AT WORK: BUILDING SKILLS, SUPPORTING WELLBEING
At C.U. Phosco, our values shape everything we do. As a family-run business, people have always been at the heart of our organisation, and we remain committed to supporting the wellbeing and personal development of every member of our team.
We offer a range of Learning at Work opportunities designed to build a supportive, collaborative workplace, one where our people have the knowledge, confidence, and support they need, both professionally and personally.
One example is our annual Services Engagement Days, where our Contract Services team from across the UK comes together over two days to connect, share knowledge, and take part in informative training sessions. It's an opportunity to improve the way we work while also enjoying some well-earned time together.
It's more than just another date in the calendar. The Services Engagement Days give colleagues the chance to exchange ideas, strengthen collaboration, break down barriers, and celebrate the teamwork that drives our Services Division forward. Learning from one another and working collaboratively remain at the heart of our success.
DAY ONE: BUILDING SKILLS AND IMPROVING SAFETY
The first day focused on practical and safety-related topics, including medicals and driving assessments. The team also took part in a demonstration of the Supamole Directional Drilling system, followed by lux testing training.
DAY TWO: TRAINING, TEAM BUILDING AND AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE
Day two centred on sharing the latest knowledge and best practice, with training sessions covering asbestos awareness, lantern torque settings, and spill kit procedures.
The team didn't just cover a lot of ground, they also took part in a fun axe-throwing activity, with some friendly competition, to further strengthen the relationships that make our team so successful.
The Services Engagement Days often include a wellbeing talk, and this year was no exception. Bob Gaskall, Contracts Services Director at Richmond, gave a powerful and honest presentation about his personal experience of being diagnosed with prostate cancer. His talk resonated with many members of the team, particularly those who have been affected by similar experiences, either personally or through family and friends.
Visitor Terry Bytheway, Chair North East Prostate Cancer Support Group, also spoke about the importance of PSA testing and early detection, explaining how a simple blood test can identify whether further investigation by a GP may be needed. In support of this important cause, several hundred pounds were raised and donated to the Prostate Cancer UK charity.
At C.U. Phosco, our people are much more than just employees and their wellbeing matters to us. Alongside events like this, multiple members of the team have been trained across the business who employees can speak to if they have any concerns.
