Complementing our existing galvanised steel range, Nedal Aluminium Columns are available as conical, cylindrical, or stepped, with heights up from 3 to 18m.

This low-weight, low maintenance approach enables simple installation with a life expectancy of over 50 years, making it a suitable solution for local authorities, highways, roads and area lighting.

Special and single-extrusion hockey stick product variations also available.

Nedal Passive Safe Technology adds to extended collision protection, with it’s concept introduced to reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries caused by road accidents.

What is Passive Safe Technology?

The impact of a vehicle on a column can cause both driver and occupants to lose consciousness, if not their lives, in the primary accident. An uncontrolled vehicle may then career across the road and pavements, resulting in secondary injuries and even fatalities to other vehicle drivers and passengers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

With Passive Safety, the effects of any vehicle impact are significantly reduced. Passively safe columns work by absorbing energy progressively, giving the vehicle and its occupants a slower deceleration and reducing the severity of injury.

Nedal offers a range of LE (Low-Energy) and NE (No-Energy) passively safe columns. Nedal also supplies HE (High-Energy) passive columns, but we believe most passive installations in the UK should be NE or LE.

This is because the BS EN 12767:2019 standard reinforces the safeguarding of vehicle occupants as the primary objective.
