We are pleased to announce that our P86x and E95x luminaire ranges have officially achieved Zhaga-D4i certification, an internationally recognised assurance that lighting products meet the highest standards for interoperable, future-ready smart lighting.
This certification is granted following type testing to Zhaga Book 18 (Edition 4.0) and confirmation that the luminaire meets the requirements set out in D4i, the global benchmark for communication, data exchange and smart driver functionality in outdoor lighting
But why is this important, and what difference does it make to you, our customers?
INTEROPERABILITY THAT SUPPORTS BETTER PROCUREMENT
Zhaga-D4i certification gives specifiers and asset owners the confidence that luminaires and sensor/communication nodes are truly plug-and-play, regardless of brand.
Whether integrating CMS nodes, environmental sensors, asset tags, or new technologies still to come, the interfaces are standardised. This reduces vendor lock-in, protects public money and simplifies long-term maintenance planning.
For local authorities and operators balancing capital budgets against operational pressures, interoperability isn’t a nice-to-have; it has become a core requirement for responsible infrastructure procurement.
SMART-READY BY DESIGN, NOT BY RETROFIT
Zhaga-D4i certification means the luminaire meets the mechanical, electrical and communication requirements for smart devices without modification.
The P86x and E95x ranges provide:
• A recognised Zhaga interface for sensing and communication modules
• Verified DALI-based data exchange for energy, diagnostics and asset information
• Auxiliary power provision for devices (where applicable)
• A platform suitable for evolving smart-city use cases
It ensures that when customers want to activate smart capability today or in the future, the infrastructure is already ready.
BETTER DATA, BETTER DECISIONS, LOWER LIFETIME COST
D4i is built around the principle that luminaires should communicate useful information: energy use, failure modes, driver performance and asset ID.
A certified luminaire supports this natively.
Access to structured, standardised data enables operators to:
• Improve maintenance planning
• Reduce site visits and carbon impact
• Extend asset life through proactive intervention
• Support sustainability reporting
• Build the foundations for predictive maintenance
In a market where total cost of ownership matters more than ever, Zhaga-D4i is a valuable tool.
A FUTUREPROOF FOUNDATION FOR SENSORS, CONTROLS AND CONNECTIVITY
The benefit of Zhaga-D4i certification is not limited to today’s control systems. It provides a stable, globally recognised platform, aligned to the direction of travel for smart infrastructure.
Whether customers want to adopt lighting controls gradually, enable dimming strategies, monitor environmental data, or support highways digitisation, certified luminaires ensure that lighting remains an adaptable asset, not a fixed function.
