As we continue our Meet the Team series, we're shining a light on someone who’s truly part of the CU Phosco fabric. This month, we’re celebrating a remarkable milestone: August 2025 marks 25 years since Shona Tranter joined our Ware factory team. A huge congratulations to Shona on this outstanding achievement!
Let’s get to know Shona, our Production Team Leader and HR representative for the shop floor and reflect on her incredible journey over the last two and a half decades.
WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT CU PHOSCO?
Production Team Leader / HR for the Shop Floor
My role involves leading the production team and supporting the wellbeing of our shop floor staff. I’m here to ensure everything runs smoothly while also being someone my colleagues can come to with any HR-related concerns.
HAS YOUR ROLE CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?
Absolutely! I first joined CU Phosco on the assembly line, working with HID lanterns using SOX, SON, and SON-T components. That hands-on experience taught me a lot and eventually led to my promotion to Shop Floor Supervisor.
Around that time, LED lighting began to emerge, and I took the opportunity to learn about the new technology. I later worked closely with the Production Manager and decided to invest in my professional growth by completing a Management Prioritisation and HR course through the EEF Organisation. That training helped shape the role I have today, and I still love what I do.
WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE JOINING CU PHOSCO?
Before CU Phosco, I was a hairdresser—a very different world! But working with people and staying hands-on has always been part of who I am.
WHAT CHANGED HAVE YOU SEEN AT CU PHOSCO AND IN THE INDUSTRY IN GENERAL?
The biggest shift has been the move from HID to LED technology. The advancements are incredible—so much more efficient and innovative. The lighting industry is always evolving, which means we constantly need to adapt. It keeps things interesting!
WHAT DOES CU PHOSCO MEAN TO YOU?
To me, CU Phosco is like family. After 25 years, I've seen plenty of ups and downs, but we always pull through as a team—ideally with a smile! I'm particularly proud to be part of the Mental Wellbeing Team, supporting staff whenever they need help. It means a lot to know the company genuinely cares for its people.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Family time is everything to me—especially with my grandchildren, who definitely keep me busy! I also love getting out in nature with my four dogs and taking long walks. And when I have a quiet moment, there’s nothing better than getting lost in a good book.
Thank you, Shona!
Here’s to 25 years of dedication, growth, and positivity. Shona’s journey is a testament to how far you can go when you combine passion with hard work—and a willingness to keep learning. We're lucky to have her as part of the CU Phosco family.
