As part of our "Meet the Team" series, we’re shining the spotlight on the people behind CU Phosco. This time, we introduce Lee Walker – one of our talented Lighting Designers based at our Head Office in Ware, Hertfordshire.
Lee plays a pivotal role in ensuring that our lighting projects meet the highest standards. With over two decades of industry experience and a passion for problem-solving, he brings a wealth of expertise to the team. But Lee’s impact at CU Phosco goes far beyond lighting design.
LIGHTING THE WAY: LEE’S CAREER JOURNEY
Lee joined CU Phosco in 2021, bringing with him more than 20 years of experience in the lighting industry. His journey began on the tools – starting in luminaire assembly, where he gained invaluable hands-on experience. From there, his career progressed into lighting design through an internal promotion, showcasing the opportunities for growth and development within our business.
Now a lead lighting designer, Lee works on a wide range of projects using advanced lighting design software to carry out detailed calculations and create precise visualisations. He collaborates closely with teams across the company to ensure that every scheme is tailored to meet the unique objectives of our clients.
“I’ve been fortunate to cover many areas of lighting design – from street lighting to architectural and interior design, as well as product and optical development,” says Lee. “This diverse experience has given me a strong technical foundation that supports everything I do today.”
A PROBLEM SOLVER AT HEART
What does Lee enjoy most about his role? It’s the variety and challenge.
“No two days are ever the same, and that’s what keeps it exciting,” he explains. “I’ve always been a problem solver, so I love the challenge of the seemingly impossible. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, one of our brilliant Sales team brings you something completely new!”
A COMPANY THAT CARES
When asked what CU Phosco means to him, Lee doesn’t hesitate.
“If I had to sum up CU Phosco in one word, it would be ‘family’. The company genuinely supports its people – from top to bottom – and places a strong emphasis on mental health and wellbeing. It’s a breath of fresh air. The loyalty and longevity of many team members here speaks volumes.”
Lee is also a qualified Mental Health First Aider and an active member of our Wellbeing Team, further demonstrating his dedication to supporting colleagues and fostering a positive workplace culture.
INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION AS A STEM AMBASSADOR
Lee recently achieved his STEM Ambassador accreditation – a milestone that reflects his commitment to the future of engineering.
“A STEM Ambassador is someone who volunteers their time to inspire young people to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths,” Lee explains. “It’s something I’ve been working towards for a while. I never knew lighting design was even a career option when I was younger, so I’m really looking forward to showing the next generation just how exciting and diverse the field can be.”
LIFE BEYOND LIGHTING
Outside of work, Lee enjoys spending time with his wife, two children, and their energetic cockapoo. He’s also a devoted Tottenham Hotspur fan, a keen movie enthusiast, and – as mentioned – an active voice in our Wellbeing Team.
At CU Phosco, we’re proud to have people like Lee on our team – not only for their technical skill and dedication to excellence, but for the passion they bring to everything they do. Whether he's crafting lighting solutions or mentoring future engineers, Lee truly helps to brighten our world.
Thanks Lee!
