As part of our ongoing “Meet the Team” series, where we highlight the dedicated individuals who keep C.U. Phosco moving forward, we meet David Skelton, Fabricator and welder based in our Westgate factory.
Celebrating 25 years, David joined the team on 3 January 2001. We spoke to David and found out more about the person behind the welding mask - his journey, his passions, and what continues to motivate him after all these years.
CONGRATULATIONS, 25 YEARS IS A HUGE MILESTONE! BEFORE WE JUMP IN TO YOUR C.U. PHOSCO JOURNEY, TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR CAREER BEFORE JOINING US
I have always been a fabricator/ welder. Before starting my 25 years with C.U. Phosco back in January 2001, I mainly worked on making road tankers. It was hands-on work that taught me a lot of the skills I still use today.
WHAT DOES YOUR CURRENT ROLE ENTAIL? HAS IT CHANGED AT ALL THROUGOUT THE LAST 25 YEARS?
When I first started at Westgate, I primarily fabricated mid-hinge masts. Now, 25 years later, my main focus is welding the bases for the masts, although I still step in to do fabricating whenever it’s needed. The role has evolved, but it’s always kept me challenged and learning
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR ROLE?
For me, the most enjoyable thing about my role is the satisfaction of watching a mast that I have been working on finally leave the factory - knowing I had a hand in creating something strong, reliable, and built to last.
WHAT DOES C.U. PHOSCO MEAN TO YOU?
C.U. Phosco is a long-standing company, which is very local to where I live. The Job security has meant a lot to me. It’s a place where I have been able to rely on steady work and a solid team.
AND FINALLY, WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Outside of work and in my spare time, I am an avid gamer. I also enjoy playing the bass guitar, I play as a part of a local band. And whenever I get the chance, I enjoy trying out new guest beers at the local pubs.
David’s dedication and craftsmanship over the past 25 years have made a lasting impact on our team and our products. We’re incredibly grateful for all he has contributed - and continues to contribute - to C.U. Phosco.
Congratulations, David and thank you for all that you do!
