Ware – Hertfordshire

Ware is a town embedded with a rich historical past. Just a few miles from Greater London Ware is one of the oldest continuously occupied sites in Europe In the centre of the town you can find the remains of a fourteenth-century friary, now the local council offices and a conference centre called The Priory dating from the thirteenth century.

The town is also famous for its many 18th-century riverside gazebos, whose origins can be traced as far as the late 1600s. They were built by innkeepers and other owners of property on the high street, and were intended as a means of finding some peace and quiet away from their hectic lives in town.

Initially established in Broxbourne in 1923, our factory moved to its current location in 1925 where it has been an active and supportive member of the community ever since providing continual employment to residents of Ware and the surrounding area.

Coleford – Forest of Dean

Coleford is a small market town set within the beautiful Forest of Dean, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty bordering England and South Wales across the three counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Monmouthshire and one of the remaining ancient woodlands in England. Popular with walkers, cyclists and canoeists alike this picturesque region has something to offer all throughout the year.

Behind this tranquil landscape however industrial heritage as remarkable as any area of Britain is revealed. Iron has been made in the area since Roman times, using the ready supply of timber, good quality ore and abundant charcoal from the Forest of Dean and iron production in Coleford dates to the Middle Ages.

The centre of the town has been designated as a Conservation Area and there are numerous buildings of historic interest. CU Phosco® Lighting established its factory there in the 1960s and has been an active part of the community ever since.

Cleakheaton - West Yorkshire

Cleckheaton is a town in the Metropolitan borough of Kirklees, in West Yorkshire, England, historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is situated south of Bradford. It is at the centre of the Spen Valley. Cleckheaton has a history as a mill town, although this industry has now all but vanished.

By the mid-19th century the Spen Valley entered its golden era and by 1838 there were eleven carding (a mechanical process that disentangles, cleans and intermixes fibres to produce a continuous web) factories in Cleckheaton and by 1893 the town was recognised as the carding capital of the world.  In the 1840s railways were built which enabled the textile mills, ironworks and collieries to compete with those around the country. The railways brought together the people of the individual villages of the valley and quickly the villages grew until they merged into the town.

Around the turn of the 20th century, many large and expensive buildings were erected and became symbols for the area's wealth; massive chapels and a new grammar school were built in Cleckheaton, and to mark the new urban district and the fact that it was the centre of it, Cleckheaton built a town hall in 1892, paid for by public subscription.
